SURVSOFT 2.0

M. Meyer, K. Geiss 13.04.2012
==================================

SURVSOFT was developed to provide an easy-to-use graphics-oriented software
for survival data analysis using nonparametric methods. It integrates
user friendly program handling, highly flexible data import and various
design options for chart outputs.

In version 2.0 of the program, the computation of standardized mortality ratios (SMRs)
and standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) was included.

System Requirements
-------------------

Operating System: Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7
CPU: Pentium or higher
RAM: 512 MB recommended
Hard disk space: 2 MB
Graphics/Display: Screen resolution 800x600 or higher, at least 256 colors.

Microsoft Jet Module 3.6 or higher (DAO) is required for the import of dBase, Excel
or Access files. If you use Windows XP or Vista as your operating system, Microsoft Jet
should be installed on your computer. Otherwise you can download a Jet setup file from:

http://www.ekr.med.uni-erlangen.de/Files/Microsoft_Jet_4_Setup_E.exe (2.9 MB).

Known Problems
--------------

* Problems with opening the SURVSOFT help file from network *

SURVSOFT provides program help in Microsoft Compiled HTML Help (CHM) format.

If you try to open the help file (SURVSOFT.chm) remote, you will be able to see
the table of contents but the actual content is not displayed. In the content window
you see an Internet Explorer "Page not found" or "Operation aborted" error message.

Solution:

The help file can be displayed if it is stored on the local machine.

For more information on this issue and workarounds for opening the help file from
network drives see following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles:

Uninstall
---------

Use the uninstall feature of the control panel to remove the program from your hard disk:

Start - Settings - Control panel - Software - SURVSOFT 2.0 - Remove

The uninstallation routine removes all program files, all configuration files,
the start menu entries and all registry entries.

User created charts and reports will not be erased. If some of these files are stored
in a folder created during the program installation, this folder will not be removed
by the uninstallation program.

Bug Fix
-------
2010-11-30
A minor bug was fixed regarding the estimation of relative survival using period analysis
together with the "Hakulinen"-method for estimating expected survival. It affected the results
only for patients with potential follow-up times shorter than one year and had a negligible
impact in practice.
